Ambassador Kvale participates in the inauguration of the MDG and Social activities corner

Last updated: 18/05/2010 // Ambassador Mr. Sverre Johan Kvale, UNDP coordinator Ms Osnat Lubrani and Mayor of Gjakova Mr. Pal Lekaj, inaugurated The Millenium Development Goals and Social activities corner at the newly build Regional library of Gjakova.

The project is run by an initiative of volunteers who aim to promote and stimulate civic engagement and to provide more education for youth from all backgrounds and ethnicities about MDGs, social- and development issues at the local level. One main focus is to bring together young Kosovars from different ethnic and religious communities such as Catholics, Muslims, Roma, Egyptians and Ashkali.

The goal is to provide an environment for youth, students, researchers, and activists to engage with their community, develop initiatives advocate for different issues and promote activism among themselves, their peers and community. The “corner” will serve as a community place for public events, gatherings reading, advocacy and awareness of different social and developmental issues concerning the community of Gjakova, Kosovo, and the world in general.

The Norwegian Embassy has funded this project through the Embassy’s Small-Pot Fund. Other supporters are UNDP Kosovo, UNHCR Kosovo, and Applewood Public School, St. Catherins, Toronto, Canada.
