Last updated: 06/09/2010 // The Norwegian Government has granted 13 million Euros for two vocational schools in Kosovo. Although the official opening date is in March next year, a ceremony Tuesday will mark that the schools are ready for students.

The two schools are located in the municipalities Skenderaj and Maliseva. The one in Skenderaj will be in the field of Building and Construction, while the latter will provide training in Commerce, Administration and Trade.

- The schools will probably become the two best in Balkan. It is crucial for the country to provide vocational training. This will hopefully mark a new era for education here, says the Norwegian Ambassador, Sverre Johan Kvale.

The schools will be both physical and economical lighthouses in both the districts, and will generate money and local labor. The curriculum has also been developed with help from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research.

EU standard

The European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) has reported that the curriculum is in line with the requirements in EU.

- The 1700 annual students will not only be a valued resource in Kosovo, but the level of education provided will improve the opportunity of gaining employment everywhere in the world, says Kvale.

Official opening next year

The development of the two schools has seen the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affair (NMFA) donate 13 million Euros. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Kosovo (MEST) has also given 1,2 million Euros towards the project, bringing the total expenditure of the new institutions to 14,2 million Euros.

International Management Group (IMG) is responsible for the implementation of the two monumental buildings.

There will be invited guest from Norway and Kosovo for the celebration this week. The major official opening will be held in March next year.
